Spell of nature

A man walks around the block
briskly his steps
Thoughts run along with the beat
as if they were riding on him

He runs in a circle, they also turn
to break the rounding, he stops
His gaze sweeps, so his thoughts too
freed from the beat, present rises

TV pictures flicker in the parlours
man, out there has his own programme
In the houses people watch world events
outside he is under the spell of nature

Ein Mensch geht um den Häuserblock
zügig seine Schritte
Gedanken laufen mit im Takt
als ob sie auf ihm ritten

Er läuft im Rund, auch sie im Drehen
den Kreis zu brechen, bleibt er stehen
Sein Blick schweift, die Gedanken auch
befreit vom Takt steigt Gegenwart auf

Fernsehbilder flimmern in den Stuben
der im Freien ist sich selbst Programm
Weltgeschehen mögen die innen lugen
draußen steht er mit der Natur im Bann

Why the adverb? Should it not be an adjective and read "brisk his steps"?
