Standard Old grey willow

Old grey willow

Thus, I declared war to old grey willow
Which, by shattering its dieing branches
Through time and time and time
Cried away the glistening sun
Whispering in its ever caring voice:

“Don’t go out there, my old mate
For they will gaze at you with hate
And lead you on the path of doom.
I do not want to lose the one
Whom I know as, if one, my friend.”

Flying along I did not answer
To those fearful, foolish rhymes.
For happiness to find I gathered
Friends and foes around at times
And Sometimes even went alone.

John I met, a bard, red-bearded.
Oh wise words he passed to me
And asked me to, if one, regard that
To anything of worth in life
Rhyme and metre was the key.

Doubtfully I took the road
And dwelled at Arthur’s splendid Inn.
Mary I met there,
We went to bed there,
And she took off her underwear.

Women, wine and poetry
I did enjoy, but was that me?
Then, as the moon had travelled high
I stood alone at dawn and sighed.
What would my old gray willow say?

University I spent a day at
Becoming less that joyful poet.
Got to know what man’s about
And tell what daytime from a cloud.
Wise man one day then spoke to me:

“Go out to the woods and thereby see
If you can make the most of life
By proper use of stick and knife
Or otherwise you elsewhere look
For rhymes that are not from John’s book.”

Well, I returned my path and soon
Walking all alone near windy bay
An eyeless stranger passed my way.
I jumped behind that black brick wall,
Uncarefully, then took deep fall.

Last thing I ‘mem’ is someone talking
About me, oh so careless walking
In solitude through this and that
Never having one eye back.
Then I met my old grey willow.
